Laos has previously been ranked number one on the New York Times’ list of “World’s Most Desirable Countries.” In addition, according to National Geographic in the US, it was selected as one of the “25 Destinations to Visit in 2023” and even after the Covit-19, it is attracting attention from around the world and is expected to revive the tourism industry.
Due to my father’s business, I spent my childhood in many different countries. I have also spent many years in Japan. During this time, I realized that Japanese and Lao people have something in common. In fact, when I talk to Japanese people who have visited Laos, they often say, “Laos reminds me of the good old days of Japan.”
Laos is a landlocked country with no sea, but it shares borders with five countries. It is in a very important position from a geopolitical perspective. It is a key location on the North-South Corridor within the Greater Mekong Economic Region, which extends along the Mekong River Basin in Southeast Asia. I believe in a future where Laos becomes the hub of Southeast Asia, connecting people, things, and businesses, and making many people happy.

In 2015, we became a member of ASEAN and are now able to take on a market of 700 million people. The ASEAN market is experiencing rapid growth. Currently, Laos is making efforts to catch up with global standards in all fields within ASEAN.
Laos, which will hold the chair of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) in 2024, aims to become a tourism-based nation and achieve new economic growth, and there is an urgent need to educate the human resources needed by the hotel industry. Also, since high-quality human resources are needed in Japan and especially in ASEAN countries, Hospitality Education is becoming more important and we are capable to respond to various requests from overseas, especially from Japan.
